If you work with a lot of large files (audio, video, graphics), play games, save photos, its easy to chew through HDD space. One thing that I always have handy for both operating systems, though, is a utility that does nothing but show what’s eating up disk space (zero auto-clean functionality). 2 Top Pro Its beautiful and quick Its worth paying the 10 this software costs, since its so fast and intuitive that it will make hard-drive organising painless. Alternatively, if you want a clean slate, just create a new user account and delete the old one. When I was on Mac there was a great software called Omni disk sweeper It creates a list of all your files from largest to smallest so you can choose what to remove. This means that any “dirtying” that can happen is for the most part restricted to your user account, making cleanup dead simple… it’s mostly just checking /Users//Library/ for files related to the offending program. Can I delete this folder Edit: I installed OmnidiskSwiper, Its tells me that the folder Library has 110GB, but than show my only 12.5GB + 1.4GB. Is this normal The /Library/Containers folder is 64G. On macOS I do even less, because with the latest release by default all system-related directories are strictly read-only, even for programs with admin privileges. 1 The system data on my mac is taking more than 110GB of space. If you avoid the programs that act badly like this and let Windows Defender catch the remaining oddballs you won’t have much trouble. ![]() ![]() On Windows, I don’t use anything and am just judicious about what I install, because by far the biggest problem with Windows is programs putting files in all sorts of places they don’t belong (and subsequently not properly cleaning up on uninstall). OmniDiskSweeper is a utility by The Omni Group similar to ncdu that recursively searches a filesystem and displays entries sorted by size.
